A rare Killarney Wood games table, the surface with
inlay Muckross Abbey flanked by two large fern leaves within a band
of acorns and fern, the interior adorned with a chess board, backgammon
and cribbage board and flanked by Kate Kearneys cottage. The front
frieze with acorn leaves and swimming dolphins, usually attributed
to the coat of arms of Waterford, the bulbous stem and base covered
with shamrocks, the entire resting on four well defined lion paw feet,
mid Victorian (Auctioneers note: A very similar Killarney Wood table
to this was sold in our June sale of 2008 and achieved a price of
€12'000, however in estimating the valuation of this table I must
decrease the estimate somewhat due to the fact that on the inner leaf
there is a visible split, however it really does little to deflate
its price and an estimate of €8'000 - €10'000 is highly justified |

is a superb satinwood cabinet and the auctioneers have been surprised
that it does not bear a top cabinets makers stamp as its quality supercedes
many well know cabinet makers. It certainly was produced by only one
of four or five of the top English cabinet makers in Britain and somehow
or other escaped having been stamped) |

Superb quality mahogany and satinwood inlaid overmantle
mirror, the central shell motif flanked by inlaid rosettes beneath
a dental moulded cornice, the main mirror flanked by tulip bell, sun
bursts and complementing shell motifs, the entire inlaid in boxwood,
early Victorian (Auctioneers Note: This is an exceptional quality
inlaid overmantle mirror. I suspect that it was originally a commissioned
mirror as rarely do you find mirrors of such quality and shape which
would have been openly retailed at the time of its manufacture. I
can only surmise that its manufacturer was for a wealthy individual
and originally would have been placed over a marble Adams style fireplace.
I could not highly recommend this mirror enough to potential purchasers
and I can guarantee that it is extremely unlikely that a mirror of
this nature will appear again on the Irish market for a considerable
period of time) |
